design crush: welcome to parradise

i've been watching this guy for a while now. he's smart and funny, and his art is sooo dreamy...sigh. he's, like, from europe (amsterdam, actually) so he's rilly sophisticated. he also just goes by one name, parra, isn't that cool? i first saw his work on some postcards i found in chelsea (i know what you're thinking–WRONG-O!) for a club night called 'demon days' (scary hot, right?). i wasn't sure what it was all about, but i saved them and hung them up.

so, anyway his work is like, part yellow submarine, part schoolhouse rock, and all awesome! he does advertising and junk, but i rilly like his club flyers. his colors just knock me out and his lettering is refreshingly hand done looking. if only more objects around were as beautiful as this. his information on the web isn't that recent, but i'll leave you with a couple more teases...

Oh WOW. Now that's good design. So simple - always best. And the colours are just so snappy. I did a poster the other day in which I used handcut lettering. Spent the afternoon sitting on the floor with the scissors and paper. It was a lot of fun and better than spending the whole time in front of the computer.

PG - I have been known to remove some of our art off the walls when my daughter had friends coming over because it was too "weird". Somehow I've managed to breed a conservative.
